Dink day

Went out to small lake/pond and I must admit, I’ve been looking forward to it since I didn’t have any time last weekend. Got my stuff in order and took off at around 7am. For a moment, I thought I was in the Windy City cause that’s exactly what it was this morning. The wind was blowing hard and constant from the North but like all weekend warriors, that didn’t make a difference.

Started off with various topwaters for about half an hour but it must of been too windy cause I didn’t get any bites. Tried to use the wind to my advantage so I tied on a white/chartreuse spinnerbait. Combed the flats so to speak in 1-3 foot of water but no bites. Switched and tried various other spinnerbaits for another 20 minutes and caught a dink (sub 1′ lber). Picked up my other rod rigged with a Gambler Little Otter Florida Five-O started fishing slow. After a few minutes, felt some small friction on the line. Set the hook and brought in another dink. For the remainder of the morning, I continued switching between the Little Otter and a Pumpernickel Tiki Worm. Fished from 7:15 - 9:45 and ended up with 7 dinks for the outing; the wind never let up and could not come up with a solid pattern.

Now here is the kicker, the little dink here is the only one I took a picture of because a) I don’t take pictures of dinks and b) I don’t want to be laughed at… However, this little guy was special because, I had seen him before; times 3. That’s right, I caught him three times today!! I know because he was the second fish. He had some monofilment line coming from his stomach extending a good 6 inches petruding out from the gills. All I know is it was thick, something like 20# or so, so I got my clips and cut the line. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my needle nose clips so I cut it close to its jaw.

dink_032407.jpgWell going back to what I was saying, three of the seven dinks I managed to catch were this same guy. Each time looking at the mono and just couldn’t believe it. This little guy must of been starving or pist. He hit the Little Otter once and the Tiki worm twice. He deserves to be posted here…

That is remarkable. I would think for him to hit different baits hem must of been hungry.
