Bringing in the New Year - Fishing

Happy 2007!!

My fishing in December (and posts) have been non-existent but all that’s over now. Let’s face it, it stunk! That’s so 2006… Seriously, last month was very busy (as I’m sure most of you know).

None the less I did find the time to go out to a neighboring lake with the kids on New Years Day and by myself on New Years Eve.

I went out on Saturday morning at 6:30. Boy, wind is the only thing the comes to my mind from that outing. Tried a buzz bait, topwater, jig, spinner bait, crank but absolutely nothing. After about 1 hour trying various baits, I switched to a worm and fished so slow I almost fell asleep except that the winds picked up with a slight sprinkle. After a few minutes, I got the first bite of the morning at around 8:15. Gripped the rod and with a quick pull I landed a 1 pounder. It wasn’t much to see but I was happy for the action. Caught a sub one pounder thirty minutes after that and that was it.

Now this early afternoon, I took out the kids along with my brother in law and kids, walked to the lake and had them all in the water after choosing grub colors. My second oldest requested a tiki worm in pumpernickle. So a few minutes later, all the kids baits are in the water when I hear the “Tiki Master” yodle “I got a fish”. He landed a 2.5 lb’er. Of course, all the other siblings/cousins hold there head in disgust and just blanket the area with their rods… Each casting desperately over the other one..

Thirty minutes down and we’ve had a few tangles, snaps, kids getting on each others nerve; you know the usual!

Again. I hear this yodle. Another fish??? Tiki Master once again brings in a 1 lber.

Now at this point, me and my brother in law start to making wisecracks at my son but of course, he is so humble, he doesn’t shut up. We take some time with the other children, switching colors and sizes but to no avail. “It’s dried up says one” and “the only thing I’m catching is a cold”. I let everyone know that a few more minutes and we pack up so we can get home to cook.

If it wasn’t enough, Mr. I’m no #1 caught his third fish of the day (another 1 pounder). The joys on the other kids faces were priceless. I rang the alarm and took off rite after taking the last set of pictures.

All in all, the kids enjoyed their time and all wanted to return even Mr. #1 which by the way always refuses to go out with me; I’ll bet this will make him think twice next time I ask. By the way if you notice, his rod has snapped on his previous outing (can’t even remember when) and thought I would of had to replace it. With this upstaging, I don’t think he needs it.. err, what are you talking about? What, I’m not jealous?!?
