Morning keepers

This morning I decided to check out this point which I had seen while driving home one day from work. As I havn’t fished in two weeks (I know, what’s wrong with me) I got all my tackle setup last night; I actually wanted to go night fishing as there was a full moon but no dice.

Lure Selection:
Booyah Buzzbait
Rapala X-Rap - Silver
Senko (Pumkinseed w/red flakes)
Strike King bleeding bait Crank bait

Started at around 7am with the buzz bait. As you all know, boat less you have to see how you can position yourself for the best cast and this point actually helped immensely. I was able to cast parallel to the shore line. Chugged it around 30 times with no luck. Put it down and picked up my X-Rap. Saw a pack of Peacock’s but seemed like they were not interested, weird.

Dropped that and switched to a Strike King bleeding bait crank bait. After about the third cast parallel to the drop-off caught my first keeper. A nice 4lb largemouth; unfortunately for you guys I didn’t bring a camera or even my cell so no pictures today. Threw in the crank bait a few more times but the bait went cold.

Decided to slow down the presentation a bit with a senko. Caught a second keeper, 2 ¾ and boy did he have an attitude. Stuck with the senko for a bit longer and foul hooked a < 1 lb’er.

Went back to my X-Rap trying to get some of those nice Peacocks I saw blowing up on the top chasing after some tiny shads. Unfortunately, I couldn’t reach them even though I tried and tried… Had to pack up and go home. We’ve been doing some interior painting and my wife was not about to let me enjoy my weekend.

Till next time, good fishing…

I live in Homestead but I fish most of South Florida.  I would like to check out that lake one of these days. Is there a ramp close?

Man, I wish I could say that “I have a boat”… No unfortunately, these are small man made lakes and there is no motorized boats allowed. Let me know if you want a partner, I’ll split the expenses! :)
