A quick 2hr. excursion to a neighboring lake provides lot’s of fun to start the weekend. Using jerkbaits, soft plastics and topwater to allure the Largemouth and mighty Peacock’s.

Got ot the lake at 6:45am and started off the morning with the buzzbait. Within ten minutes, I started getting bites but no hookups. It seems that I had stumbled upon a rock drop which was holding several largemouth. I added a red 3/0 trailer hook and landed a few 1 pounders.
Switched to the XRap and almost immediately the Peacock erupted. There is something about jerkbaits that the Peacock just can’t stand. Whether they are hungry or simply irritated by jerkabits, they just explode on them. Caught both a 1-1/2 a 2-3/4 counterpart which were travelling by themselves. Did a little sight fishing and noticed a male peacock on a bed of algae a few yards from where I started. At 7:07, he hammered it! 4-1/2 that had the areial acrobatics down to a science. Too bad I was alone or I would have definately had to take some shots of it a foot out of the water…

The bite cooled off a bit so I tried the Tiki Worm and came up dry. Switched back to the XRap and landed a 3 pounder @ 7:45am. Again, tried the Tiki Worm at caught about four 1lbs. and below.
So for the small amount of time I was able to get out and fish, it was definately productive. In addition, it was certainly relaxing as I have not been able to get out for a long time; work and other priorities have taken over!!!. But things are cooling down so I will be able to get out a bit more. Till next time, happy fishing..
