I had a great time this Sunday morning. Temperature was a cool 67 degrees and quickly rose to 75+ in the later hours with a slight breeze. The peacocks were definitely aggressive and swimming in packs of six to eight.
Lure Selection:
- Strike King’ Zulu in albino and black/grey
- Suspending jerk bait in green
- 5” swimming watermelon w/red flakes worm
Fishing from the shoreline, we casted out over rock ledge points to about 4-5ft. water when it triggered their reaction. The school repeatedly fought for the bait and I caught the first fish @ 8:22, a nice 4 lbs. on the second cast:

The second fish came in within the next couple of minutes. Not as big as the first one, but a decent one at 2 ½ lbs.

Seemed the pack moved on after that so changed over to a Texas rigged worm and slowed down the presentation. After a good thirty minute dry spell, something exploded on the worm, I was able to set the hook and it just took off. Not sure exactly what I had but it was certainly lunker size. With all the commotion of the peacock explosion earlier, I didn’t retie…. AHHHHHHH!! As you might have guessed, it came undone and there went my prize fish of the day. Let this be a lesson to you, always retie after bringing in a decent fish and with peacocks specifically, retie religiously.
Till next time, good fishing…

What about the previous post? I think that’s an important note as well.
