Morning outing

It what a beautiful morning. The temperature was about 79 this morning at about 7:30. The sky was overcast and I thought for sure it was going to rain on me and my daughter. Yes you heard correct, my six year old daughter decided she wanted to go.

Lure Selection:

  • Strike King’ Zulu in yellow
  • Suspending jerk bait in green
  • 3x watermelon french fry

So there we were, I was using Strike King’ Zulu in yellow and she was using a 3x watermelon french fry. Within a few casts, the Peacock’s were smashing my lure. I caught a nice 3 1/2 # and 5 # immediately after that. At that time, my daughter was bringing in a nice 2 # peacock but it broke her line. Let me tell you, she has a “Barbie” kiddie’s rod that she has caught a 3 1/2-4# largemouth without a problem, but the shear power of a peacock, it broke the line as it was coming in.

Well to make a long story short, my daughter didn’t catch anything (and as embarrassed as I am to admit it, she usually out fishes me with that rod) and I wound up with a few nice ones on all of the lures mentioned above.

As mentioned on my last post, I was so pre-occupied with the princess and the aggression of the Peacocks; I didn’t retie after the first two catches and ended up loosing a quality fish and my jerk bait. After that fiasco I caught the best fish with a Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow, a 6+ # (not sure). I took off the hook and rite then and there he started dancing. He jerked so much, he did a number on my thumb (they have small teeth, but they carve nicely into your flesh), dropped it and he splashed me and my princess thoroughly.

Here are some of them:

Caught a few fish, lost a few, lost some lure but all in all had a great time with my daughter.

Nice catch. I wish I lived in sunny South Florida ;)
